I think Apple would claim that it’s one of the measures that ensures the integrity of their App Store. That if all the developers pushing apps to the store have had to pay what—at least to most people owning a $2,000 laptop—is a more or less nominal fee, then there will be less poor quality and ‘me too’ apps published. I’m inclined to agree with them, at the same time arguing against what I’d regard as the prohibiting restrictions of the MFi Program. I guess I’m not claiming any degree of consistency here.
